October  1, 2013

So, I started this journal on October 1, 1998.  Fifteen years ago.  I have not missed a day (though some were late in getting posted) and the early stuff was on a different site and is no longer online.  I think I have it all though.  Yeah, fifteen years of 'finished the book!' 'started the new book!' 'having trouble with ideas!'  Yeah, about 5475 such posts.  You're lucky the older ones are gone.  People could die of that boredom.

But I have kept it up.  Things are very different now.  I was still looking at traditional publishing back then.  Now I'm very happy with where I am in the Indie world.

I'm preparing for NaNo.  I think it will be a good year!

So that's my post.  Not much more to say, really!

October 2, 2013

We had odd storms tonight. Really cool ones --lots of lightning but very little thunder.  A bit of rain.  I guess the storms are going to go on all night, which is fine.  Makes a nice sound.

I am floundering right now on what work to do next.  I know I did get everything done on the next two Surviving Elsewhere entries and I need to do more.  It's been fun writing those and I hope to have all the way through November done soon.

Of course, I also need to work more on outlines.  Those are going surprisingly slow for me.

But I am getting there.  Just that November is coming far too quickly.

October 3, 2013

I am again editing the Sangre book.  I should have expected this.  I'd not considered how much older the work is, and how many problems that would mean.  Words like 'it' and such are peppered throughout the book.  Peppered, salted and maybe gingered, too.  So, going through and reworking sections small and large.

Odd October, really.  Trying to get lots of things done. The outline is going well, too.  So I should have three of them ready for November, no matter what.

We'll see if I'm really ready for November, though.

October 4, 2013

Wow.  Weird weather today.  We had tornadoes in a number of places near us, but the weather stayed reasonably okay where we were.  Good.    Don't expect that sort of thing this time of year.

Writing is still going well enough.  Yay!

October 5, 2013

I was going to go to the zoo today, but the weather is very cold (49f!) and I wasn't feeling well anyway.    I do have the heat on in the house today, finally.  Why do I get the feeling we're going to have a long, cold winter?

I might go to the zoo next week.  We'll see how that works out.  Should be fun, though.

Meanwhile, back to writing outlines and editing books.

Edmond and Buffy

October 6, 2013

Went up to South Dakota today.  Weather was way too cool, but otherwise a nice enough drive.  I wasn't feeling very well, though.  I hadn't been for a few days, but I survived it.

Not getting much done in writing, but that's okay.  The outline is still moving along.  I'm hoping for better soon.

October 7, 2013

I went to the zoo today.  Unfortunately, I got very ill within the first half an hour and spent the next eight and a half hours not as happy as I should have been.  I did get some nice pictures, though.  Just don't know when I'll have a chance to sort through them.

I hope this miserable stuff clears up soon.

October 8, 2013

I slept for a long, long time.  I think it helped.

I have not sorted out hardly any of the pictures so far, though.  I hope to get to that tonight.  Sounds like something fun to do because I honestly don't remember many of the pictures I took.

I did get a bit done on the outline today.  Nice to see it still moving along.  I am also working on the next Surviving Elsewhere section and trying to get ahead there.

And that's it.  Hoping I continue to feel better.

October 9, 2013

This month is going too quickly.  I am fighting to get things done for myself, but it seems like I still don't have the time.

I need two things ready for publication by the end of the month.  Both of them are almost there, but fighting me.  I need more ideas for the serial and I'm not doing well there.  I need more art work for the serial.

I need to get the outline done.

Ugh!

October 10, 2013

No, can't say today is much better than yesterday.  Russ and I both seem to have come down with a bit of the flu, and it's not been helping us get stuff done.

Sleep is good.  That's about all I've been going for lately.

I have some ideas for the outline.  I see possibilities.  Now if I could just get them worked into the plot, things would be good!

October 11, 2013

I watched the first two Mummy movies.  I think it may have inspired me a bit, which would be good.  I need some inspiration.  And to just get moving on stuff again.  I'm getting editing done and bits of writing, but wow -- just not fired up!

October 12, 2013

Okay, really.  The weather is turning colder, which I don't appreciate.  The writing is not moving the way I would like and we're almost to NaNo.  Well, I have two good outlines so far.  And part of another one, so if I needed it, I could still keep going.  But really, is it too much of my brain to ask for the rest of the story?

Apparently so at the moment.

Almost ready to publish my October piece, at least.  I have the cover done and the story is very nearly ready.  At last I can say I have something done for the month!

October 13, 2013

We had a lovely tour of Northeastern Nebraska today -- Ashfall, Niobrara, Ponca State Park.  Did lots of pictures.  I am tired, and ready to go sleep for a few days.  LOL

Writing has fallen a bit by the wayside, but I'm getting to it.

And looking at pictures.

October 14, 2013

We've had a lot of rain.  Very odd after so dry a summer.  I'm not sure it helped anyone, but there it was, finally.  Wet stuff.

What does this mean for winter?  We're already getting way too cold.  Dropping down to near freezing each night and I don't appreciate it at all.

I think I'm having trouble writing.  Editing is going okay but driving me nuts.  I am trying to get the October and the November releases done in time for NaNo.  Ugh.

October 15, 2013

Have I mentioned lately how much I really dislike cold weather.  Yeah.  This is too early to be hitting the freezing stuff already.

I have a hard time adjusting to winter.  I don't like being cold.  I do like to look at snow -- but only if I'm nice and warm and comfortable.  Since we hire the guy next door to scoop the stuff, I'm really not in bad shape that way.

But cold.  Ack.  And it's not even really close to winter yet.  I suspect it's going to be a long time to spring this year.

October 16, 2013

Editing is driving me crazy.  I'd much rather be spending all my time writing, but that's not happening.  I need to get the two pieces ready for publication.  I don't dare back off it and say I still have a couple weeks.  I know how fast that time can go.

I need to get the third outline done as well.  And I am not moving on that one.  Not much at all.  Ack.  but I'll get there.  I want to have the three of them done.  I keep thinking I need a 4th outline, but I'm just not going to make it.

I hope to have a good NaNo this year.

October 17, 2013

I think I have For the Honor of the Hunt done and ready for publication.  The first story was originally published in Honor Bound by Yard Dog Press, but the two other stories with it are new.  It's a great set.

But yeah, not getting much on the writing side.  Oh, I'm up to November 15th for the Serial, so I'm a little ahead there and I would like to get three more weeks worth of work done so that they're covered for NaNo.

I need to focus.  Right. I'll get straight to that.

Yeah, this is not going as well as it could.

October 18, 2013

Russ is heading back to New York for a few days next week.  I'm looking at what I need to get settled in here for five days. And, of course, the weather is changing for the worst.

But I'm still working away at the outline and stuff.  Just need my brain to focus a bit better!

October 19, 2013

I'm getting used to the weather change already.  That's good.  The house isn't too bad yet, and we can hope for a mild autumn/winter this year.  Snow isn't so bad as long as it doesn't go to bitter cold weather with it.

Writing is moving along at a glacial pace this month!  I think, having found that I didn't need to do newsletters for a few weeks, that I decided just to take a break in general.  I'm getting things done, but it's been slow!

October 20, 2013

We took a lovely ride today, heading for De Soto Wildlife Refuge.  Unfortunately, the refuge was closed for a deer hunt.  Just the same, the ride was nice.  Lovely weather and colors.  Very nice and calm.

Still not getting a lot done on the writing, but the outline has actually come close to finished finally.    This is good.  I really had started worrying that I wasn't going to get there with this one.

October 21, 2013

Today I dropped below the 40k mark on the number of pictures to still tag in Lightroom.  This is pretty incredible because the total number is over 110k.    I am going to have this done, maybe even this year.

So that's a good 'other project' that I'm glad to see so close to done.  Yeah, 39k plus left to do is still a lot, but when you realize I've tagged over 60k, it doesn't look quite so bad.

Once they are all tagged, I'll be weeding out a lot of poor photos.  Right now I'm doing a mass tagging for stuff.  If I see that there is a set of 20 House Sparrow pictures, I just tag them all at once and don't look to see if there are out of focus and otherwise bad photos in the group.  I'll do that later, and delete those.  I have deleted quite a few pictures if I happen on them,

This is one of those projects that required the right program.  Adobe Lightroom is fantastic for cataloging pictures.  I still have a few to add in -- slides, prints and some off of small disks.  I have to order a drive to read those, though, and that hasn't happened yet.  But still, it is going very well.

What is the use of having all these photos if you can't find the ones you want, right?  My tags are cat names, seasons, specific places, etc.  Some of them will get added tags (like the zoo shots) when I go through them.

So, all in all, doing well there.

And yeah, the outline is almost done.

October 22, 2013

Had a lovely evening with Russ who took me on a quick ride and then out to dinner.  He leaves for New York tomorrow for a week, so he thought I ought to get out a bit before he goes.

He'll be back on Sunday, so it's not too bad. The only problem I really have is that it's getting cold.  Snarl.

But stuff is going okay, otherwise.

October 23, 2013

Russ is in New York.  He called me from the airport.  And he just now connected from the hotel, so all is well!

I finally have an idea for the Summerfield book, too.  I knew if I just kept nudging at it, something would happen.  I haven't gotten all the story, but it's going pretty well.  I'm just jotting out the notes now.

So, just working away here.  Can't say there is much more going on, of course.  At least it didn't snow like they predicted.

October 24, 2013

I have started rewriting/editing Journey To Winter which I hope to have done for December.  Or during December, actually.  I think this would be a good release.

Right now, though, I'm still trying to get outlines done as well.  Don't tell me how close we are to NaNo.

October 25, 2013

Well, this might be more work than I need.  So far, I've rewritten just about every paragraph in Journey to Winter. The plot of the story is good, but the wording -- yeah, needs work.

The novel was from my 2003 NaNo.  Interesting to see how much I've learned in ten years.

October 26, 2013

I believe I have all four outlines done.  Wow.  I didn't think that would happen!  I just need to arrange them a bit better, but other than that, it's looking good!

Could it be that I'm almost ready for NaNo?  Seems unlikely, but it could have finally happened.  This is only the 13th year, after all.

Russ will be home tomorrow.  Yay!

October 25, 2013

Russ was in Dallas when last I heard from him.  He should be heading home soon, I hope!  Yay!  The last few days went quickly, but reminded me way too much of the months while he was in New York.

Working on Journey to Winter.  It's going far better than I thought, considering how much work I have needed to do on it.

Just waiting now for Russ.  Yay!

October 28, 2013

Russ is home.  Tired and not feeling well, but home.  Tomorrow he works in Omaha, unless he gets a call late tonight.  Yeah, he's back on call this week.

I'm over a quarter of the way through Journey to Winter.  Yay!  I am also down to less than 29k in pictures to tag.  This means I should get them done this year. (Ignoring the a-drive disks that still need to be loaded in and can't until I get a replacement drive).

I'm getting my four outlines set up, too.  So I'm ready to go.  Should be a good NaNo year!

October 29, 2013

I have had a headache today.  This is annoying because I have things to get done.  Close to NaNo.  At least the outlines are all there and ready.

Russ is on call this week which has made stuff a bit difficult.  But we're getting there.

And that's about it!

October 30, 2013

Oh what a horrible, horrible headache.  Couldn't get much of anything done.  Couldn't even get my Plot bunnies out here and ready.  Ugh.

And tomorrow night I'll be starting NaNo.  At least I am ready with outlines, though I can't say there's anything else about me that's ready this year.

Ugh.

Must rest and hope no headache  tomorrow.

October 31, 2013

The countdown is on.  NaNo is nearly upon us.  Yay.  I will have fun.  I am determined to.
