August 1, 2015

It is early in the morning on August 1.  I usually wait until later to write on the strange, off hope that I'll have something worth writing about.  That doesn't seem to be happening lately, so maybe early is just as good.

I am trying to get everything caught up here -- well, except for the Newsletter.  I'll do that tomorrow.  Today, that is, after some sleep.  If I can get some other things out of the way, it will be helpful, though.

There.  I got a couple things I was not looking forward to done.  It's after 3am.  I knew it was going to be a problem because of some changes to the site, but I did it and now I just have page edits and newsletter to get finished.  So a good start to August!

August 2, 2015

We had a nice ride tonight, out through the Iowa farmlands and back home.  A shame I keep getting so ill, though.  This is really starting to annoy me.

But Xenation is all but done.  Amazing!  And Paid in Gold and Blood will be up for sale in a couple days.  This is fun stuff.

August 3, 2015

Another day of being ill.  I'm getting more and more annoyed by this.  Bad tempered Zette's are not a lot of fun.

We took Edmond and Zaphod to the vet today.  They're really good about riding in the car and it's fun to see people look surprised when Edmond is sitting with his nose to the window looking out.  Funny cat, really.  Zaphod is a little more anxious, but still not too bad.

August 4, 2015

Xenation is done.  I think the cover work is done, too -- but I won't know for certain until I upload and try things out.  That might be yet tonight.  I'm trying my hand at a wrap-around cover, which should be fun.  It might take a bit more work, though.

Just remembered a couple more things I need to do with the back cover before I can count it done.  Better get to that, I suppose.

Xenation is the longest thing so far at 576 pages.

So much work to do.  Really, why am I doing this again?

August 5, 2015

I did not get much done today at all, but even so, I'm close to done with Xenation.  I did realize, though, that I have the line spacing wrong which means going through the entire book and resetting the chapters once again.  Ugh.  How many times do I need to do this?

Apparently a lot of times.

august 6, 2015

Work.  Work, work, work.

There are days when I really am tired of looking at the computer screen, but what else would I do?  Clean house, I suppose.  Go for a walk?  The weather isn't good for that kind of stuff.  I could watch something rather than work, but I'd still be staring at the screen.

Get stuff done.  At least it is progress, right?

August 7, 2015

Today is Russ's birthday.  I wish we had done something fun.  I offered to buy him dinner at his favorite place -- but it is in Sioux Falls and he didn't feel like going that far.  We ended up not doing anything at all, which is a shame.

Seems like nothing is quite working out.

August 8, 2015

We have food in the bird feeders again, which is really kind of nice.  I've been getting a few nice shots.  I hope for better as the fall migration stuff starts up.

The proof copy of Xenation is ordered. So are ten copies of Paid in Gold and Blood.  Things are starting to look good on that end.  Xenation is the third print book.  I'm working on Kat Among the Pigeons for # 4.  It's proving to be more difficult than I expected.

That's okay.  I don't need to rush.

August 9, 2015

Okay, so we're basically 1/3rd of the way through the month already.

You realize autumn is coming soon, right?  And then the dreaded winter.  I would like to think I'm better prepared this year, but I won't lie about it.  I'm not prepared at all.

I also realized (not for the first time) that I spend more time working at the computer than people who work at computers for a living.  I often don't mind.  Days like today?  It's been a battle to get things done, but I'm pretty much there.  I think I'm going to watch something tonight.  Or maybe play with some graphic programs.

Either way, I'll still be sitting here.

August 10, 2015

The birds are back at my feeder.  I have been sitting by the window sometimes and trying to get pictures, but they're not so keen about me watching.  I have to sneak up on them sometimes.

It's not so bad, though.  Nice to see them back again.

Writing is going fine.  Not great, but not bad.  The only problem is that we're less than 3 months from NaNo.  This can't be good.

August 11, 2015

Yesterday turned out to be a really good writing day with over 4k.  Haven't done that in a while.  Today is not going badly, either.  I'm getting books ready for publication, too.  Xenation, Kat Among the Pigeons -- I think I might do the Silky trilogy after that.

Outlines, though -- outlines are fighting me this year.  Ack.  I need ideas.  If I can get four more novels done (besides Second Chance, which I am working on now), then I'll have reached 100 novels.  This would be all kinds of fun.

I need something to publish for ebook, too.  Gah.

August 12, 2015

Having hot weather and I think that just makes it hard for me to think.

I don't know why.  It's not like I enjoy cold weather.  I think my brain just doesn't like either extreme.  Or maybe I'm getting old and I don't have the patience for this.  So it should stop now.

We are supposed to be getting cooler weather again soon, though.  Meantime -- edit, edit, edit.

August 13, 2015

We had a gorgeous sunset tonight.  We really need more of those!  It was nice to see something so lovely and easy to photograph.  LOL.

I am focusing on getting Kat Among the Pigeons done.  It's amazing how a few years away from the book can make you look at things and go EDIT!!!!!!!!!  It's going alright.  So is Xenation.  That will be two more print books in the collection.  I'm amazed at how well this is going.

But I still need new ideas and they are just bouncing around and nothing settling.  Not even the sequel ideas.  Very annoying.

August 14, 2015

I am still managing to do my Flash Friday stuff, so it can't be all bad, right?  This was #159 and a second dip into Greek mythology in the last few weeks.  I think I see a theme coming on.

But here it is Friday already and half way through the month, more or less.  Wow. This is going fast.  I need to focus on . . . something.  It's not like I'm not busy, but it is kind of odd how I don't seem to be pushing stuff to get ready for NaNo.

I'll get there.  Probably through pure panic in late October.

August 15, 2015

It's been a quiet few days again.

I am starting to think about winter, which I really don't want to do yet, but  there it is.  Will it get cool early?  We've had ice and snow on Halloween, so you have to be prepared to face that sort of thing.  Yes, still two months away, but still -- ugh.  Really trying to come up with a way to minimize the heating bills this year.

Other than that, just edit, write, do cover art.  The Xenation cover needs changed.  it's too dark in the proof.  Also needed to redo the bottom margin on the pages, which meant having to reset some chapter breaks.

I'm getting there.

August 16, 2015

Rain.  Lots and lots of rain.  Enough to flood areas and it isn't letting up.  No serious flooding, but this was quite a shock!

Still trying to come up with new ideas.  I have ideas -- I always have ideas for stories -- but getting them to sort out and find something I can start working on for background and outline is just not easy.

Xenation is about ready for another proof order.  New cover is very nice.  Kat Among the Pigeons is closer to done.

Over all, not too bad!

August 17, 2015

We are having a second day of rain.  Flash flood warning for basically the whole day, but it should ease up after that.

I got an idea for a Vision Workshop which is at least something.  Better than sitting around at the last moment and trying to figure things out.  I'm using Scaple to work out the notes.  I think this is going well.  I love Scrivener, but Scaple allows me to see the notes all at once.  Easier to move things around and put new things in.  I think I'll like this for story stuff.  I've played with it a bit, but I haven't had a solid enough story to move forward with it.

Oh, and happy Black Cat Appreciation Day

August 18, 2015

And we have a story idea!

Yes, finally -- something new crept up into my brain and has started me working out the details.  So far the title is Loyalty: The King's Own and the Queen's Guard and it's basically about how loyal survivors of those two groups are when there is trouble.  I'm working out all the details.  I'm happy to see it coming together already.

Other than that?  Not a whole lot going on.  Rained for a bit today, but nothing like it has been and it's supposed to be drier for a few days at least.  Good.  It got too cold!  I'm not pleased.  LOL.

And now, back to work!

August 19, 2015

It's cold today!  Honestly, can we just be comfortable?  This is getting silly!

I think I've made my decision on the next ebook -- Mirrors 2: Reflections.  It's going to take some work, but I'm up for it.  I like Skye and I think I can get this one into something as interesting as the first book, which I really liked.

I might have a go at it again and put them both out in print, too.

So that's my news for the day.  I have lots to get done, but it is going well.

August 20, 2015

I have had such a hard time coming up with something to do for an ebook release that I really mistrusted the choice of Mirrors 2.  However, I seem to have fallen into the story, so I'm going to stick with it.  I hope it keeps going this well.  I'll go over the first Mirrors as well and then look at print books for them.  Better start thinking about cover art for them.

It's giving me some stuff to work on.  I'm letting Kat sit for a little while and then I'll go over that one again.  Waiting for the proof copy of Xenation.  Lots of writing stuff going on again!

August 21, 2015

I realized something I need to work out better with the magic in the Mirrors books and I'm starting to note that stuff.  I think I'll have to expand this second story to make it closer in length to the first.  There are plenty of places that I simply skipped over, so that's not a problem.  First drafts are like that for me.  I get stuff down and then I start looking at what more (and sometimes less) it needs.

The weather has been better.  It's supposed to stay that way for a while.  I don't know that I really trust it, though.

We went out to Bacon Creek this afternoon after Russ got off work.  Had food (Tastee's) and just watched things.  I've been getting horrible headaches, and on the way home (after a stop at a store that didn't have anything of what I wanted), I began to see why I was having trouble.

The sky was yellow with smoke from the northern fires again.  I hope it doesn't get worse like the last time.  I feel badly for the people who are so much closer.  I hate these fires.

August 22, 2015

I think we are going to have an early autumn.  With that in mind, I'm already looking over my tea collection and starting to think about what I want to get ordered for the cooler weather.  I must be prepred!

Mirrors 2 is going okay.  With luck, it will just keep going like this and I'll have it ready towards the end of August or the start of September.

Still have to think about that cover art, though.

August 23, 2015

We went to DeSoto today.  Lovely time.  No water foul at all, but nice birds, flowers, water -- a nice day to be there because it wasn't too hot.  I got a lot of flowers to play around with for a while.  Should be fun!

And I got one story idea sorted out from what is really an entirely different story idea.  Two stories to work on!  I might have a chance for NaNo yet!

August 24, 2015

The day away from the computer really helped!  I am getting all kinds of writing stuff done again.  Mirrors is over half way done, and though I had to do some serious rearrangement of the story, it is still working well.  It's also picked up about half the words to grow to the length I would like, so that's good too!

I can't wait to start working on outlines again, though.  That's coming soon.  I just want to make certain I'm close to done with Mirrors 2 so that it doesn't get lost in the crowd!

August 25, 2015

After all the work of getting the story rearranged yesterday, I'm ready to get back to work on the editing.  It's going well, over all.  I don't usually rearrange stuff like that, but I had something that was not crucial to where it had to go and filled in a nice calm spot that needed a bit of a pick up.  So that's good.

Just need to focus on it again and get moving towards the end again.  I want to get things finished up.  I don't dare slow up now!

August 26, 2015

The problem is trying to get caught up on some things so that I can start on other things.  It is like a circle that never finishes.  The good thing is that I never have to mumble and grumble about not having anything to do.  I am never bored -- not in the traditional sense anyway.  I can get tired of looking at the computer and the same room in the house, but I am not bored with the work itself.

No one can ask for anything better of a job.

August 27, 2015

Oh yes, end of the month.  I can begin panic mode now, right?

Really, not too bad at the moment.  A new copy of the Xenation proof will be here at the end of the month and that should set things up for that book.  This miss-cut the last one, so we need one more copy.

Kat is after that, and then the two Mirrors books.  Maybe Muse next in line.  I think I would like Don't Go Home for the Holidays before Christmas.

We'll see.  Too much stuff to get done.

August 28, 2015

Well, I can panic or I can just decide it's not worth all the stress this month.

I think I'll go for that plan.  There are things that need done. I'll get them.  You can't ask for more than that, right?

I hope I can get back to working on art again.  I haven't done much lately and I miss it again!

August 29, 2015

The smoke for the fires up north is back again.  We had a really interesting orange moon tonight.  Not real good for headaches and such, but interesting to see.

I am trying to get a couple story things done since I have to start thinking about NaNo soon.  That's coming very close already! I am always amazed at how fast the year goes.

The big question I have now is whether or not we'll have a really cold November.  Need to start thinking about adapting to winter soon.  Ugh.

August 30, 2015

Newsletter done.  DAZ pages updated.  Worked on getting my notes moved from Scapple to Scrivener for the new fantasy novel and then worked out the first two chapters.  This is good.  I am going to get my outlines worked out well this year.  I've been light on them the last couple years and it just hasn't worked out as well.  I would like a good, solid NaNo this year.  I have at least two novel ideas, so I should be able to pull that much off without a problem

I have a list of things to do tomorrow and the next day.  I work well with lists, even if I don't much like them some days.

But really, that's about it.  Just work away at things and get caught up.  I hope.

August 31, 2015

Oh, nothing like rushing around to get stuff done on the last day and then realizing you are going to be away from the computer for several hours tonight, so you have even less time than you thought.

I've actually gotten a considerable amount done off my list.  Maybe I need this kind of nudge more often!  LOL

I need to work on the DAZ Challenge for September still, but most of the big things are done.  This is good.  I may go into September with just about everything handled already.  Amazing!
