July 1, 2015

It seems strange not to be doing NaNo this month, but I'm glad I'm not.  I just feel as though there is so much stuff I need to get caught up on that I need to let some odd things go -- like extra NaNo novels.  I wouldn't want to start something new now anyway.  No reason for it.  I need to start preparing for the November run.

And I want to do more art and photography stuff.  I want to get out and do more pictures and I want to be able to do them well.

So, it should all be good this month.  Calmer, I hope!

July 2, 2015

Two years ago I had a heart attack today.

I keep thinking I ought to be taking all of that more seriously and start working at losing weight again, do more exercise (I have done that a bit), and eat better.  It's not happening so much right now, but maybe I can keep working at it.

On the other hand, I do seem to be taking better control of some work things, so that's good.  Get all kinds of stuff done and out of the way and I feel much better for it.

So, all in all, not as bad as it could be.  But still -- I ought to be considering things, right?

July 3, 2015

This weekend I'm working at trying to get lists of things done.  This list, that list -- I'd like to get more of Vision updated, for instance.  Do some more ACOA work.  Get the book up for sale on CreateSpace.  That one should be easy, I think.  The final proof came today and it looks good!

Next up will be Paid In Gold and Blood.  I'm deciding on the cover -- the original looks good, I think.  The version without the blue ghost hand.

So many odd decisions to make.  Even so, I'm getting there.

July 4, 2015

Happy 4th!  Looking forward to getting a few nice shots later today.  Right now, though, I'm in the midst of working on stuff still.  I would love to have all my list done by the end of the weekend.

Of course, by then I'll just have a new list, though.

Still, at least I have a goal.

July 5, 2015

Had a lovely ride tonight.  I'm trying to get a grip on what I'm doing with the paperback versions of the novels -- how best to sell them.  So far I don't have any better idea than I did for the ebook versions.

I've been letting stuff kind of ride in that respect.  I think I can do something more . . . but I really don't know what it might be yet.

July 6, 2015

The smoke was back from the Canadian fires and even worse than it has been before.  I hate to think what it is doing to the lovely forests up north and the poor people in that area.  It's bad enough down here, though.  Not horribly thick, but enough to make it unpleasant.  I constantly feel as though I'm out of breath.  We need the jet stream to move.  Not that I'm wishing this on others, but still -- just move off.

This stuff makes me very tired.  I don't need more tired.

July 7, 2015

Clearer weather!  Yay!

I was even a bit more up and going today.  Got stuff done around the house, worked a bit on writing.  Gave the dog a bath.  That one nearly killed my back.

I also bought a little program called Scapple that allows you to write notes and draw lines to link them.  I'm not sure this is going to help me, but we'll see.  I've started notes on the sequel to Glory and I can see some little ideas.  Let's see if they grow.

July 8, 2015

Bookmarks.  Business Cards.  Maybe laminated pictures.  Those are some of the things we're discussing as giving away with signed copies of the book.  I like the laminated pictures.  Just little ones and something that maybe links to the book.

I've also really started the editing of Paid in Gold and Blood.  I need to get this one done and into the paperback process.

This is good.  Move forward!

July 9, 2015

The smoke is back and so thick I can taste it and my eyes are watering.  And I'm TIRED.  Ugh!  This is getting annoying.

I think everything is going to suffer for it today because I simply cannot get going.  I have Scapple up and I keep trying to come up with even little notes to add and nothing is working.  I was picking up the house and gasping for air.  I'm sitting here thinking about editing, if not actually writing, and my eyes are watering.

Ugh.  Some days nothing wants to cooperate.

July 10, 2015

A quieter today, but I can't say it was really a lot better.  I am trying to get things done and it's going okay, but just not getting any spark -- not in writing and not in art.

Those are the annoying days.  Not horrible, but just listless and you feel like you wasted all that time because it takes forever to get the things done that have to be completed.

Ugh again.

July 11, 2015

We went out to Stone Park today, which was nice.  It was immediately cooler the moment we got within those nice, green trees.  It made a nice afternoon of it.

I think I have finally decided that the next ebook I'll publish is Devlin 5 -- or Devlin 5 and 6 in a single volume since they're both fairly short.  We'll see as I get the edits done.  I am finding it hard to get into Devlin's character in the opening, but I hope that's going to change as I get going.

I also hope this doesn't take me forever to get done.

July 12, 2015

Let's just start off with ugh, shall we?

The heat hit finally.  The heat index today was 109f.  My window AC has done the best it could, but it was still 87f in my office for a good part of the day.

We have another heat advisory for tomorrow afternoon.  I suspect we'll be having them for a good part of the week.

Working when I'm hot is always iffy.  I don't like too cold and I don't like too hot.

So not getting a lot of work done except for the stuff that has to be completed.  Thunk!

July 13, 2015

I had one of those web jobs today that should have taken me a couple hours at the most.  I spent all day on it.  It's still not completely done, but it's closer.  Ugh.

I am almost done with Touched by the Wild.  The rewrite has gone very well!  I might have it done tomorrow, providing I don't get hit by another web site from hell problem.

It does take something off my list, though.  Yay!

July 14, 2015

I did finish the rewrite of Touched by the Wild.  Added about 34k to the original, so that's quite a jump.  The story is put aside now.

The next job is taking the print version of In the Shadow of Giants and making it back into the ebook version to upload so that both styles of book are the same. That's not hard, actually -- I'm about 1/3rd of the way done -- but kind of boring.  I should have it done tomorrow, though.

The weather here is still hot and miserable but we might get some rain tomorrow.  Good!  Heard there have been a lot of power outages all over the area the last couple days, but we've been fine here.  The cats and I would melt.  LOL

July 15, 2015

Miserably ill again.  Really, very very ill. This is getting to be annoying.  I'm just going to curl up in bed and snarl at anything that comes close.

July 16, 2015

We had an absolutely fantastic storm today!  Wow!  Russ took me out to see it, too and I got some great shots.  I am just amazed at how well some of them turned out.

I was so sick yesterday that I couldn't even open the box of books (In the Shadow of Giants) that arrived.  Then I got busy today (feeling much better) and still haven't gotten to it!  Maybe tomorrow.  It'll give us something to celebrate.  And maybe buy that little book case that I want for this stuff.

That's it.

July 17, 2015

We had one of the most gorgeous storms I've ever seen today and Russ took me to Stone State Park so we could watch it from the hilltop.  Amazing!  I have never seen anything like that before.  It was fantastic, beautiful and a bit scary at times.

Wow.  I loved it!

July 18, 2015

And we had another storm today!  It wasn't as bad as yesterday's storm, but it produced some really lovely pictures.  I wish I could get shots like these from the last two days more often!

Does make it hard to get work done, though,  Yeah, falling behind on everything again!

July 19, 2015

No big storms today.  I suspect people are happy about that, though it's bad for someone who would like to do more lovely pictures.

Russ and I had a nice ride, though.  We talked about stuff to do with the book sales.  I need to start designing book marks and such.  I need to start thinking about website stuff again.  There is just always something else that needs done!  I'm amazed that I never really get caught up any more.

July 20, 2015

We bought a pair of matching, used bookcases.  I love them!  The cats love them too, but that's something else entirely.  They are going to work very well for holding a set of my books, plus the extra copies we will have on hand for selling.  Yes, I am getting closer to that part!

The weather is back to blah.  No nice storms and clouds!  Huh.  I guess you can't expect it all the time, right?  Well, at least not in this area!

July 21, 2015

We did have some pretty clouds tonight and lovely blue skies at sunset.  That was okay!

I'm done with Paid in Gold and Blood and waiting for word on the proof.  I'll order that and then get ready to have a second print book ready for sale.  I need to focus on that.  I need to start figuring out how I'm going to push both these and the ebooks.  Nothing is selling well right now!

But I have faith.  These books are pretty good.

Xenation: Draw the Line is the next book on the list.  I hope it goes well, too!

July 22, 2015

I fell and hurt my leg, my shoulder, my hand . . . I will not hiss and growl.  But I am annoyed.  And it hurts to work.

(There.  Not a hiss or a growl.)

July 23, 2015

Falling put me into a bad mood, but I have kept up at my work.  Xenation is moving forward.  I think I might have it done before the finished proof of Paid in Gold and Blood. That will be three books in print.  Not bad.

Now if I can just figure out what to do with them.

We had another nice sunset tonight.  Not cloudy, but lovely colors.  I got a wonderful picture at Crystal Cove.  So that's good, too.

I need to get my brain around all of this, though.  It just isn't quite coming together yet.

Oh, and other writing is going well.  Second Chance is moving forward as well, though honestly I am mostly focused on Xenation, which is turning out to be a good book.  I'm always surprised when that happens.

July 24, 2015

Finally worked out the problem with Paid in Gold and Blood so that the proof is ordered.  It will be here early in August.  Yay!

Our internet service provider has changed email clients and . . . ugh.  Just one problem after another now.  Russ and I are not happy.  I hope we can work something out with it.

Today I posted my 156th Friday Flash Fiction.  That means every Friday for three years without a miss.  Nice.  I liked last week's FF better than this week's story, but I am still happy to have been able to do it all!

July 25, 2015

My leg is not bothering me much now, but my shoulder and neck still does.  Oh, this is just annoying.  I want it to stop now.  It's making writing less fun.  I hate that!

I am almost half way through Xenation already.  I am starting to find a lot of mistakes, though, which annoys and embarrasses me.  I'll be glad to update the ebook versions when I'm done with the print version.  That's what I did with In the Shadow of Giants already.  I should probably do Paid in Gold and Blood now, but I think I'll wait until I have actually published the print version.

I want to get this stuff going.  Almost there, if I can just work it out.

July 26, 2015

We have a pretty sunset yesterday.  Since my knee is still giving me trouble, it was nice to go see it and just sit in the car and watch.

Writing is mostly editing right now, but it is going well.  This will be my third print book!  I need to get back to other stuff, though, too.  I would like my brain to start picking up new ideas again.

I'm sure I will pretty soon.

July 27, 2015

I am surprised by how much I am changing in Xenation.  The first half was pretty good, but I must have fallen down on the job for the second half.  Oddly, though, I am really enjoying nudging this one into better shape.  It's a lot of work, but I think the story is worth it.

I hope I can keep this going well until the end!

July 28, 2015

Busy day!

We start with a very strong dawn storm. Winds, hail, lots of rain.  it was too dark to catch most of it, but I did get a little bit as it started to grow lighter.  We haven't had a dawn storm like that in quite a long time.  Lovely!

Then this afternoon we went up to South Dakota to visit.  We don't often do this during the week, but it did make a nice trip this time.   Between the storm and trip and after the trip I did get a bit of writing done.  It was nice to take a break from the computer, though.

July 29, 2015

Oh yeah.  End of the month.  Insert the usual rant here.

My email is not working.  That's no fun, either.

I don't think I can have Xenation done by the end of the month, but it will be close.  I still have about 200 pages to edit, and even though it's going very well, I just can't see 100 pages a day.

Not a problem, really.  I am far ahead of the schedule for print stuff anyway.  The proof copy of Paid in Gold and Blood will be here on about the second, and then there will be another look over before I get that one set up for sale, too.

I have designed some postcards and bookmarks.  I need to do a couple more things.  So much to get done!

July 30, 2015

Oh yeah, end of the month panic.  I'm sure I can get stuff done, but it's still the kind of thing you worry about.  I would love just to have everything done ahead of time some day, but my mind just doesn't work that way.

I am not going to have Xenation done before the end of the month, but it is close.  It is looking good, too.

Other stuff?  I'll get there.

July 31, 2015

The proof for Paid in Gold and Blood came in today.  It looks really nice.  I need to change one thing on the back, but then it's good to go.  I still don't have all the extra stuff I would like done, though.  I'm working my way up to them.  I've found a site that I think I'll use for some of them.  I could print some of these things myself, but really between the paper and the ink, it's probably not worth it.

Zaphod has decided that he must leap and land on our shoulders or backs if we are leaning over.  It's cute a lot of times, but I'm getting badly scratched up when he doesn't quite connect right.

I am very nearly done with the work for the month, though I have one big thing left I just don't want to do.  Blah.  I'll get to it tomorrow.

But that is the end of July!
