May 1, 2016

I survived Camp NaNo and I got Jami done.  That was my 100th novel and I'm very happy to have done it.  This month is going to be short stories and edits.  One novel is done and ready to go back to the publisher, except for one question I need to ask Russ.  Yay!  Good way to start the month off.

Though the first short story is not moving along all that well.  Figures.

We have had cold, rainy weather for days now.  I think it is going to warm up next week which would be nice.  I keep seeing things that say we're going to have a hot summer, though.  That figures.  I suspect it's going to go from 'still running the heater' (today) to one week of spring and then into over-the-top summer.

Ah well.  It wouldn't be Nebraska if the weather was actually cooperative.

May 2, 2016

Lovely weather.  Nice clouds.

I have started a quick edit/rewrite of Tales from Grey Station 9.  This is a fun set of adventures!  I need to write more of them!

Other than that -- not a whole lot going on!

May 3, 2016

We are, remarkably, still having spring.  This is odd because usually we go from snow to OMG get the AC in within a week of each other.  LOL

Grey Station 9 -- good fun.  Exciting story.  Nice dialogue.  A joy to work with, really.  It's going to take a lot of work to get it done eventually, but right now -- fun to do.  Yay!

May 4, 2016

I have had a wonderful set of little birds at the feeder this year.  There is one Downy Woodpecker I especially like. We're trying new kinds of food and it seems to be working.

Tales from Grey Station 9 is still moving along very well.  It's a long book but this first edit will be easy.  I'm just fixing obvious problems, then it will sit again for a while.  But it is fun to read.  Wonderful characters.

May 5, 2016

We took a lovely drive out around town today and I got to play with the camera.  LOL.  I love spring.  I love nicer weather.  I will not so enjoy summer, but this has been nice.

There is one problem with TFGS9 that I don't know how to address.  The first three 'adventures' are far longer than the next five adventures.  I need to even them out better -- but it's already 156k.  Yeah.  Long.

But I'm still enjoying it.  I'm sure some of the later stories could use more depth, but -- 156k.  Ack.

May 6, 2016

I need to get things done this month.  Really.  I've been so caught up with Tales that I can barely get anything else done, though.  It's going very, very fast, but this is just a light edit.  I'll put it aside again and think about what it needs.  It needs . . . things.  I hope I can find the things and fix it.

But you know -- having fun!

May 7, 2016

Very, very ill.  Could barely get out of bed.  This is miserable.

May 8, 2016

Still ill, though not as bad as yesterday.  This is awful.  I hope it all clears up fast, though.

Getting a bit of writing done.  Really close to the first run through Tales.  Fun stuff.  Wish I felt better to enjoy it more.

May 9, 2016

Feeling better today.  I'm not sure I trust it, though.

I did get through all of Tales somehow.  I put it aside and pulled out Raventower.  I have hopes for this one, but it's going to take some delicate nudging.

And right after I started working on it, I finally realized what I can do with Tales that might work.  yay.

We had a little hail today, but nothing like the weather people have been having around us.  Got lucky again.  Did get some nice pictures of clouds, though.

May 10, 2016

Today I finally worked with my photo studio for the first time.

I've been either busy or ill for weeks and I was getting more and more annoyed..  Today I sat the last things up, pulled out my oldest teddy bear, and took a few shots using different lights.  The room is really too small for it, but I still had fun.

Writing is going fine.  Working on an odd short story -- that will make 3 out of 10 for the month.  Editing Raventower and trying very hard to make it right.

Work and work and work.  But it's fun.

May 11, 2016

Interesting storm today and even a rainbow!  Unfortunately, all this up and down pressure changes are driving me to despair with headaches.

Getting stuff done, though.  Raventower -- very slow, but oh, this is sounding nice.  I need to stop myself from rushing sometimes and go back a few pages to add in more detail again.

Is this the novel? The one that 'makes it'?  I don't know.  But I am sure enjoying the work.

May 12, 2016

Had a miserable headache/sick day with a lot of it in bed.  I can't tell if I ate something that didn't agree with me, or if the weather is hitting me, or if there is something else entirely going on.

And it's not warm enough.  Come on weather!  Enough of this cold stuff!

Almost half way through the month.  This weather is just crazy.

May 13, 2016

Felt better today, even though the weather is worse.  Supposed to drop down to around freezing tonight.  Yeah.  In May.  I think this is supposed to be our last bad round of weather, but who knows?

Raventower is going well.  I need to simply sit down and work on it.  Just let myself fall into it and really work on the beast.  Should I look for beta readers for it?  I keep thinking I should and then I don't.

Too many things to consider.  Too many things to think about other than writing.  It will drive you crazy.

May 14, 2016

Had a nice day except for the headache that hit at a bad time.  I really hate those sudden sharp ones that make it impossible to even tell what you are supposed to be doing.

It's late, though.  I got things done on Raventower.  I need to spend more time on the weekends just pretending this is my fun time, even though I often do just as much work (or just as little, if you look at it that way).  I had some fun tonight, though.  I worked with pictures after I had done quite a bit on Raventower.  I did no 'work' at all.  Tomorrow I'll need to do the newsletter and edit pages, though.  I hope that it won't be too difficult.

So much stuff to do.  Like go to bed and sleep.  LOL

I got quite a bit of non-writing work done today.  And then did quite a bit of writing stuff, too.  Amazing how it can all fall together some times.  I wish it would do that more often.

And I'm actually tired tonight, which is good, too.  I hope to have a nice, long sleep.  After I read a bit.

And maybe write a little more.

May 16, 2013

It is going to warm up.  It is going to warm up.

It's not exactly cold right now -- though two nights down at the freezing point is a bit too much -- but it does seem a little chilly and damp still.  I would like the house to dry our and air out.

Focusing on Raventower still.  I'm amazed at how much of my attention this book is keeping.  Generally if I'm editing, I want to work on something new as well.  Not in this case.

It's kind of fun.  Odd, but fun.

May 17, 2016

Yes, of course I'm feeling ill now.  Ugh.  I hate this up and down stuff this spring.  A lot of it is just an over abundance of pollen and then the pills that I have to take to keep the reaction held back. The pills make me tired and cranky.  I get snarly.

I also don't get a lot of work done.  Sleep seems to be far more important than work and naps are required.  ugh.

But still, but still . . . I am a quarter of the way through Raventower.  I've added about 4k in words and if it keeps going like this, I'll end up with about 135k total.  I am amazed.  Nice, lovely, long steampunk novel.

Just had a thought.  Jotting it down.  Love when that happens.

May 18, 2016

My day went up and down a bit, but not bad overall.  I got 'things' done, which is better than not getting anything finished.  I managed a little of this and that and a lot of Raventower.

I sit down with that novel and I know I'm not getting back up for a while.  I simply get sucked into the work and the story.  I've started setting up a timer to make me realize time has passed. Generally a lot of time.  Where did today go?  Oh, that's right.  I spent it wandering around Kamere and painting in details. . . .

May 19, 2016

Oh yeah, headache day.  Should have seen this one coming.  Wow.

Trying to get the next FF done for tomorrow and falling a bit behind on it.  I'll get it before Friday is done, but right now, it is hard to even think about this kind of stuff.

Not a lot more to say, really.  Time to go rest.

May 20, 2016

Working away, working away.  I've slowed up a bit on Raventower because I think I rushed through a section or two too fast and didn't get all the details in that I wanted.  I'll be going over it again.

Other than that . . . got the flash fiction done.  Fought the good fight against another massive headache.  Watched birds.

may 21, 2016

De Soto National Wildlife Refuge!  Had a great trip and saw lots of odd things today, including a couple soft-shelled turtles.  I've not seen that kind in the area before. Plenty of painted turtles and snapping turtles, but not the soft-shelled ones.

I love spotting new things.  I really appreciate that Russ took me down there.  It was great!

May 22, 2016

Today I had work to get done.  Newsletter, page edits for DAZ, all that kind of stuff.

But we went out for a ride and I got to walk through part of the Adams Nature Preserve, just north of town.  They have a big pond!  Saw geese and turtles there, so it was fun!  I hope to go back soon.  Maybe Russ and even just drop me off for a few hours.  It was nice, quiet -- and no bugs yet.  Those will be coming all too soon.

But it was a good day for some pictures.  A good two days to get out with the weather about as perfect as it ever gets here.

May 23, 2016

Oh, lovely clouds, pretty sunset.  Lots of rain.

I am trying to get a short story done and you know, brain just won't focus on it.  Raventower has taken over my mind again.

And I have hit a spot in it that is giving me trouble, too.  Ugh.

But I'll get there.

May 24, 2016

The weather is warming up.  That's going to be a problem before too long.  I keep seeing forecasts that say the summer is going to be unusually warm.  Not really what I want to hear, but still better than the cold stuff.  AC will have to go into the window and block a good part of my view, though.  Sigh.

Short story is still not done.  Raventower is still giving me trouble.

I'll get there.

may 25, 2016

We were supposed to have a lot of storms this week, but we've gotten next to nothing.  I wouldn't mind some thunderstorms.  Nothing drastic.  Just something pretty to watch and get a few shots for my collection.

The house, unfortunately, is starting to get  a bit uncomfortable in the heat.  A lot of it is general dampness so it tends to be humid.  Well, the AC will take care of that one.

May 26, 2016

We had a lovely storm last night.  Actually early this morning.  Lots of lightning and some heavy rains, but nothing dangerous.  Not even much in winds.  it was nice, though.

I am moving along on things.  Fiendish things, I think.  I don't know.  But the next Flash Fiction story is almost done -- yay!  That's #200.  I got some distance on Raventower today, too.

Also trimmed the dog.  Bad job of it, but she'll be happier to have a lot of that long fur and some tangles gone, especially with summer upon us.

It's late.  I need to read my chapter out of The Republic of Thieves and get some sleep!

May 27, 2016

More storms tonight.  Nice, really.  I'll miss them when it gets hot and too humid to breathe.  LOL

I did get my 200th Flash fiction done and posted.  That was good.  I'm having a bit of research trouble with Raventower, but nothing too serious.

Russ decided to do a subscription to Great Courses Plus.  He owns a lot of their courses already but this way we can go through any of them we want at any time.  We just set up my Nook/Tablet and wow did that look good!  I clicked on the first course -- a history of India -- and I'm already very happy.

So, off I go on new adventures!

May 28, 2016

Today's editing was a lot of write this followed by go back and add that so THIS makes sense.  It's actually kind of fun to work that way.  I enjoyed it a great deal.

I'm getting closer to the end of the novel.  Then some serious grammar, etc. edits.  But overall . . . yeah, I'm happy with it.

Marketing is going to kill me, though.  Just so you know.

May 29, 2016

Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge!

Yeah, I had a good day.  Lots and lots of pictures.  I wish it hadn't gotten quite so hot, but it was still a lot of fun!

It's a shame the place is so far away, though!  I need to get back to the Adams Nature Preserve and see if I can't get a few more pictures there.  At least they have a lovely big pond!

I had fun, though.  Saw lots and lots of things!

May 30, 2016

I'm not certain why, but today I decided it was time to pull out the print pictures and start scanning them into the collection.  Yeah, I need several thousand more pictures to catalogue, right?

Though I started with something fun -- several hundred pictures from my favorite vacation in 1997.  We went to several places in New Mexico and Colorado -- Chaco Canyon, Mesa Verde, Rocky Mountain National Park being the big ones, but some smaller spots as well.  It was  great fun.  We revisited many of them in 1999, too.

It's fun scanning the pictures in, but this is going to be a long, long process to get all of them and all the others done.  Wow.  Lots and lots of stuff!

May 31, 2016

My desk is covered in pictures.  Keeping the cats off of them -- yeah, that's a neat trick I haven't quite figure out yet.  But I am getting stuff done and pictures scanned in.  I'm slow because I stop in Lightroom and fix things up a bit as I go.  That's half the fun!

I am on page 376 of Raventower.  I feel like I'm still lacking some details and I keep going back, working forward, going back . . . but it is working out.

And that's the end of May.  Nice month.
