November 1, 2016

I have set up all the pictures for November so that I don't even have to think about it while I'm writing my NaNo stuff.  And yes, it is all cover art from my own work.  Let the fun begin!

Day one came in at 12097 -- a nice start to the NaNo madness.  I like the story so far.  I hope it holds up well!

November 2, 2016

Day 2 is not going as well as Day 1, but I think there is still hope of pulling this together.  I should be able to get to a total of 20k but probably not much over that, and probably not a full 10k for today, either.  Just the same, I am happy enough with how it is going.

Raventower 2 shouldn't take too long to write.  This is going to be fun if I can just get my head back around the idea of working.

November 3, 2016

Day 3 and heading towards the 30k mark.  I'm doing fine, even if it has been a little difficult to keep going.  The words are there and the outline is working very well, but I just can't seem to stay focused today.

Which is why I'm over here looking at adding stuff to the journal rather than writing.  I'll get there but I just don't have the stamina for the 10k days like I used to.  That's kind of amazing.

Still, it's going well.

November 4, 2016

Day 4 -- I wrote over 8k today and it still averaged out to 10k a day.  The novel is moving along so well that I know there will be a problem soon.  It can't keep going this well, can it?

But I'm going to enjoy it while I can.

November 5, 2016

Day 5  -- Back to the real 10k days.  I've reached the 50k mark which means I technically win NaNo.  50k is also about half way through Raventower 2 and a quarter of the total count I want for the month.  So this is going well.

Wind is doing better, I think.  It's been up and down and it is hard to get him to eat, but he seems to be looking better!

November 6, 2016

Day 6 -- 10k again, but it was far more difficult today.  I can tell that my ability to track the story is taking a hit with the election coming up so soon.  I have never been so sick of politics and elections in my entire life, and it's all because of Trump.  He's set the tone for rude, evil, disgusting behavior and it is only going to get worse.  If he wins, every idiot who thinks like him is going to take it as a flag to say he can do the same.

Ugh.  I hate politics.

November 7, 2016

Day 7 -- I am burying myself in my work. The novel is fun most of the time, but I feel as though I just don't have the real feel for the characters for some reason.  I need Mica to start doing more.  I need Merriweather to make more of her comments.  I need more clockwork creatures.

On the other hand, the storyline seems to be working well. The rest of this I can work in, rework, etc.  I think it should be a good book after an edit or two.  Or three.

November 8, 2016

Day 8 -- I have never been so embarrassed to be an American.

November 9, 2016

Day 9 -- I didn't get much written yesterday.  Today I've seen a lot of people panicked for their lives because they fear the Trump win is a sign that people will come after them because the president will back them.  That's so sad.

He's not my president.  He just isn't and the harm he's already done is a sad reminder of how hate can still win the day.  However, it is only the day.  This was the backlash against 8 years of moving ahead and battering against injustice and bigotry.  Oh, we all knew it was still there.  It was easy to see -- but we had a government that was aimed at helping people, rather than hurting them.  It's just sad that these fools think this is the answer.

November 10, 2016

Day 10 -- I am trying to focus back on writing.  I need 6k today to stay on track and I'm almost half way there before dinner.  Yay!  I'm at 82,508 right now which is a lovely number of words.  The story has about 120 more plot points to go, so even if they come in short (say about 250 words each) it will still be well over 100k for the finished first draft.

I love outlines.  There have been plenty of places that I've leapt off the outline for a bit, but having it shows me where I want to get back to for the ending I want.  Knowing even the basics of the ending gives me story goals.  Otherwise, I'm apt to wander around and writing boring stuff just to write something.

My shoulders hurt.  Too much tension more than too much writing.  I find writing relaxing.  I enjoy my characters and the story.

So back to it.

November 11, 2016

Day 11 -- Over 5k for the day.  Still moving along.

It was a lovely day to take some pictures around the yard.  All the lovely fall colors. They won't be around for long now, but it is nice to see them.

November 12, 2016

Day 12 -- Not a great count today, but all right.  My ability to do good amounts of writing seem to go up and down this month.  I would love to get some steady 6k days, but it just hasn't happened.

And I can't tell if the story itself is bouncing up and down as well.  I won't know that answer until I am done and can read it.

We took a nice country ride this afternoon.  Amazing to see how much everything has changed.  The weather is still nice, though.  Let's hope it stays that way.

November 13, 2016

Day 13 -- Another ride, this one through Stone State park.  All the leaves are down and it looks so different!  Oh yes, Winter is coming.  There is no doubt about it, but it's still not bad out.

I wrote 6k words today.  That's a bit better.  I am, I know, getting closer to the end.  I can tell the story, like the first one, does not explain enough of the clockwork/steampunk aspects of it.  They're there, but what is obvious to me will not always be obvious to others. That's edit stuff, though.

November 14, 2016

Day 14 -- And the word count drops again.  Ugh.  Up and down.  I did much better last year.  I suppose between Wind being ill and me being ill, I'm doing better than I should hope.  But still, I wish I could get this story to just flow again.

November 15, 2016

Day 15 -- Yes!  a 9k day!  That helps out!  If I could get a few more like that I'd be very happy.  I think the story is moving into some fast-paced sections, too.  And yes, getting much closer to the end.

Then I'll have to consider which of the two to write next.  I think it will have to be Silversun, though.  Amusing Grace might be too short for what I need.

Providing I can write anything at all.

November 16, 2016

Day 16 -- And ill today.  I still managed 4k words, but I really need to do better.  I need to get close to 200k this year to reach 3 million on the total NaNo Count for the last 16 years.  I don't want to be a few thousand words short.

I need to write.  I need to just sit down and write and stop being sick and miserable.  Do you think telling myself that is going to work?

November 17, 2016

Day 17 -- My beloved Wind, or eldest cat, died this afternoon. He was a teddy bear of a cat, the 4th Siamese we've had since we married, and as sweet as a cat could be. I generally read my Nook in bed at night, with me propped up on pillows. He would climb up on the pillow, stretch out across my shoulder, and read with me. Sometimes he'd even reach out and turn the page for me -- usually before I was ready.

He was a 'pretend Siamese' since he was a feral kitten and his mother was a black cat. He and his brother and sister would come to my window and if I opened it, at least he would come in. What he loved best to do then was to go over to the shelf by the window, grab one of the teddy bears there, and try to escape with it. The house is emptier without him.

November 18, 2016

Day 18 -- I could probably finish the novel today if I really cared.

Blah.

November 19, 2016

Day 19 -- The first NaNo novel is done at 128,047.  I think I'm even happy with it.  Now it goes away for a few months and I move on.

I'd hoped the start to Silversun would really  move.  it is not.  This is putting me farther behind.  And we won't be home for most of tomorrow.  Ack.  But it is started and things will go well once I get the feel of it.

November 20, 2016

Day 20 -- Over 7k on Silversun today, And it is done so that's better.  The story has been interesting, I think, but I won't know until I'm done and can read it later.

Now on to Silversun.

November 21, 2016

Day 21 -- Silversun is going along just fine.  I am not so worried about this one being right, of course.  It's an experiment and supposed to just be an enjoyable way to finish out the month.

Nine days left.  I might have to push a bit harder!

November 22, 2016

Day 22  -  We had a wind storm and the leaves are now all down.  The absolute cold has not struck yet, but you can feel the cold and damp coming closer.

Write.  I need to write.  Hard to believe we have barely a week left in this month.  Back to Silversun!

November 23, 2016

Day 23 -- I bought a new (used) dress for a doll who is about 55 years old today.  She looks quite nice.  Through the Internet I learned she wears about a size three -- but actually, I think five is closer.  Anyway, need to get her a pair of tights and she'll be ready for the holidays.

Ugh.

Writing.  Right.  There is nothing but writing in my life.  I had an 8k day.  Silversun is going along fine.  I just want it all done.  One week to go!

November 24, 2016

Day 24 -- I probably sound as though I hate NaNo.  That's not true.  I just hate this year with the loss of Wind and other miserable stuff.  The writing is okay, really.  It is a good diversion, but I'll be happy to get back to just normal writing stuff.  I only have one book to finish off this year plus an outline.  1k days for all of December?  Somehow I doubt it, but you never know!

November 25, 2016

Day 25 -- I crossed the 1,000,000 word mark for this year today.  I am, however, behind on the 200,000 I want for November.  Kind of funny how that works.

Silversun is an easy book to write.  I'm going to be interested in seeing how I like it later.  I'm starting to relax a little, though, which is nice.  We had our Thanksgiving today and the food was good, too.

November 26, 2016

Day 26 -- Russ is out of town for a couple days.  I wrote 9k today in hopes of getting a nice, small run of words for the last few days.  It's still sitting at 4500 per day.  Only a few days left.  Maybe I can cut the last couple days down to less.  Just get in here and write.

November 27, 2016

Day 27 -- I have not started writing today.  I keep pulling up the manuscript, looking at it, going and doing something else, looking at it -- and you know, it's not like this is going to be hard.  I have an outline.

Just need to focus and my brain isn't into it just yet.  I'll get there.

Russ will be back home sometime today.  We're having rain and we might have a thunderstorm.  Just so long as it doesn't get any colder, we're fine.

But that cold is coming, you know.  The wet stuff is going to eventually turn to white stuff again one of these days.

I think I'll go write about my desert world now....

November 28, 2016

Day 28 --  I am getting very close to being done.  Really.  I didn't think I was going to make it for a while there, but now I'm just making myself write.  Silversun has been a bit of fun to write.  It was a good choice for the second novel.

Not that it is a good novel.  Just something fun to play with, though.

Almost done!

November 29, 2016

Day 29 --

I am almost there.  3165 today and tomorrow and I'll be done with NaNo and have 200k.  Yay!  I didn't think I was going to get to the end of this one.

My brain is starting to work it's way towards the next things after NaNo.  Like pick up this room. Wow, what a mess.  Of course Tiny Rooms get that way.

I need something to cheer me up.  Just not been the best month, but I'm still trying to stay positive and get things done.

November 30, 2016

Day 30  -- I AM DONE!  200679 WORDS!

That's two novels this year and no little shorter pieces like I've done on occasion before.  Wow.  I am really, really glad to have this all done.  Now I can get back to -- huh.  What is it I need to get back to?

Well anyway -- done.  Time to get back to other stuff, whatever that might be.

Oh and yeah. We have winter.  Just not the snow yet.  What good is the cold if you don't have snow?
