October 1, 2016

Tonight I managed to pull off the hour long book release thing.  All is well; I survived.

I can't say I've gotten much else done today, though.  I am not sure I've even taken a picture, so I'll have to set something up for that soon.

So this is October.  I need to focus on the outline for Raventower 2.  I think I can pull it together and have it ready by November 1.  So that is my single one thing I want to do this month.

Shall we take bets on if I can pull it off?

October 2, 2016

We took a lovely long ride this afternoon.  There will not be many more days this nice, you know.  Especially not on a lovely Sunday.  I think it helped.  If got to work on the outline after we got back and I started seeing things to write.  It has been slow, but outlines usually are for me.

Even so, I think I see a lot more of the story now.  I have a path for a couple pieces and I just need to 'imagine' all the stuff that goes between them.

October 3, 2016

I got up today and started working on the outline.  A couple more steps have begun to show themselves.  I'm starting to get that tingly feeling that I love as a story unfolds.  Lots of fun!

The weather is supposed to get cool and damp tonight and tomorrow.  This has the feel of true autumn.  I'm getting my office cleaned up -- looks like I will be in there again this year after all, which is fine.  I want to be there before November and the start of NaNo, too.  So I am working at arranging things a bit differently this year.

We'll see how everything goes.  I'm actually having ideas.  I think it must be the change in the weather.  This is nice.

October 4, 2016

We had a really good rain storm tonight.  It hit hard and the wind was strong -- but it didn't amount to much in the end.  Still, it was nice to listen to it for a while there.

Writing is holding okay, though I'm starting to worry about the outline on one side and if I will have enough to write to hold me through the month on the other side.  Kind of funny.  I hope the outline comes through soon.  I'm starting to see more little bits of it, but I still need the whole story.

Any time now would be nice.

October 5, 2016

I have a cold.  One of those miserable, just leave me alone and die colds.  Didn't get much done at all.  I can say that the pills are helping, though, so I shouldn't complain so much.

Just don't like to think this is how the whole autumn/winter is going to go for me.

October 6, 2016

I found a new desk for my office.  Yay!  I'm working at getting things cleaned up in there (yes, there, not next door -- just wasn't going to work!)  and I'm thinking about changing a lot of things around for this.

It will be okay to be back in the little room where I can get it warmer.  This cold is already doing me in.

Oh, and it is snowing in parts of Nebraska today.  We're heading for a hard frost tonight.  It will get warmer again after that, but we all know what this means.  Yeah.  Winter is coming.

October 7, 2016

The desk won't be here until Tuesday.  We bought it at a thrift shop here in town, but they don't deliver on the weekend, so it has to wait a few more days.  That's actually not all bad.  I still have things to do in the room before it gets here.

The cold is still trying to do me end, but I'm fighting it.  I think I'm going to find one of those heated lap blankets for this winter, though.  Yeah, I'm getting old. The cold just hits me badly these days.

I have about 65 points on my Raventower 2 outline.  I need something like 200 plus -- but what I have so far is going well, and I'm starting to see things better.

I need to look at putting Raventower 1 out.  I think I've done all the adjustments that I need to make.  Anything after this and I'll adjust book 2 rather than book 1.

I had someone read the first chapter and she really liked it -- and found misspelled words.  Sigh.  But overall, it looks good!

Yes, must get that done.

October 8, 2016

We went out and looked at leaves today.  Lovely time of year, even if it does mean -- well, you know what's coming.  I'm preparing myself for it.  Kind of.

I got a good stretch of outline done today, though.  I have enough already to write the first draft and fill in more pieces as they occur to me.  The stuff I have is good.

Oh, just had a thought on 'why do this the hard way' for part of the outline.  But right on top of that came an answer.  I better note it right now.

There.  Good.  LOL.  I think I'm going to enjoy writing this one!

October 9, 2016

Another lovely ride today.  The weather was about as good as it can get this time of year.  Then I came home and got more on the outline and it is going VERY well.  I'm happy.  My word count is not very high right now, but what I'm doing well anyway.  Outlines are always slower to right than stories.

I am also working on my office.  I will have a new desk on Tuesday.  We bought it at a used shop, so it was really cheap and was just about exactly what I was looking for, so I'm happy!

October 10, 2016

I spent almost all day working on my office.  I can't say that it really did much good.  Ugh.  And I don't think I can really do much more in there.  My back is killing me and the dust -- ack.  Found a lot of interesting books piled up in corners, though.

I have not worked on the outline today thought I probably will do some yet tonight.  I did write a good section of Winter Warning, getting the last of Chapter 6 done.  So far, it is looking good.

I would really like to get the office stuff done.  It is workable right now, but there is more I would like to do.  I suppose I could do most of it a bit at a time once I'm in there, though.

So I guess, maybe, I can get a bit more writing done tonight.

October 11, 2016

The desk is here.  The room is almost ready for it, too.  I don't think we'll get it tonight, but by tomorrow night I should be settled into the room.  Right now I'm just annoyed that I can't seem to get anything the way I want it.

And there's the worry that the desk won't fit through the door.  ugh. Why can't any of this stuff just go nice and easy?

Writing is just kind 'eh' today, too.  I'll do better when everything is settled.

October 12, 2016

Moving into the office today.  It is going okay, but a lot of arrange, change, rearrange -- and not a lot of writing.  That's okay in some ways.  Just step back from the outline and get an idea of what I still need.  Winter Warning is doing fine, though.  If I can get the outline moving, then I won't have any trouble getting Winter Warning done, too.

Getting into nice warm room, though. That's good.

October 13, 2016

I am in the office.  It is nice and warm and has tea, though I already miss the bird feeders.  Maybe we can get something moved to this side of the house and out my little window here.

The cats are happy, too.  Nice warm room and though the desk is small, they don't seem to mind.

Trying to work.  The outline goes forward, stops, leaps ahead, stops.  Less than 3 weeks to NaNo, but I have faith that I'll get this all done in time.  I am not entirely certain that it will make a good book, but you have to start somewhere!

October 14, 2016

Setting up the office is taking longer than I expected, but that's mostly because I have been changing a lot more things around.  Also, the cats are weirded out. The small desk does not suit them at all, but there are other places for them to rest.  We're probably going to have a long hard battle over the desk this winter, but I have faith that I will survive it.

The outline is still moving along nicely again.  Now that I know I have the basics down, I'm not so worried about making it work.  Even if the first draft comes in lower than I want, I should still be able to work this into something interesting.

Not much longer!

October 15, 2016

Russ took me on a lovely ride this afternoon.  The leaves on the trees are beautiful and the light was perfect.  You don't get many nice days like this in autumn.

Outline and story are both going well.hyuuuuuuuuuu (Zaphod)  I believe the material I am getting for Raventower 2 is going to make a lovely story out of it.  I had my worries at first, but it's finally all coming together.

October 16, 2016

We went for a lovely ride and I saw lots of wonderful colors today!  I got some excellent photos, and it was just great to be out for a little while.

Too soon it is going to be dark and cold and probably white.  I appreciate getting to see this before it all is gone.

And NaNo is coming.  Ack.  Back to work.

October 17, 2016

It is interesting to watch the days count down to NaNo.  I'm not ready, of course, but even if I did nothing more between now and then, I think I would still pull it off okay.

Still, it is a worry.  I hope to do reasonably well this year.  I hope the Raventower 2 novel comes together as well as the first one did.

Too much to worry about.

October 18, 2016

Very ill again.  There must be something in some particular foods that is really trying to kill me.  I have to figure it out.  This is misrable.

October 19, 2016

I spent almost all day in bed.  Then I got up for a while, then rested, up for a while, rested.  I have gotten a few things done, but I just want all of this to clear up.

I'm heading back to bed now.

October 20, 2016

I was doing okay and then I was ill again.  This is just got to stop.  I'm going to avoid certain foods for a while to see if that's the problem.  I hope that it's that easy to clear up.

I'm trying to get stuff done, but it is not going well.

October 21, 2016

Despite this being a very troubling day (Wind is very ill), I somehow made a connection with the outline again and got quite a bit done on it.  This is good.  I would like to get up to 300 points on this story to make it easy to write for NaNo.  I have the story there already -- I'm just adding in bits and pieces now to fill it out.  It's looking pretty good, really.

I am also working on getting Raventower 1 ready for print.  It is published now --

Lord Micalus Raventower is a genius at creating clockwork creatures and tinkering with steampunk engines, but that doesn’t explain why Atiran assassins are suddenly intent on killing him. Lt. Merriweather is assigned to protect Lord Raventower, a role she initially resents since it takes her away from the castle and any chance of advancement to the King's Guard.

Trouble is brewing for the city of Kamere. Atrian warships stand off the coast, and there are enemies even within the ranks of the nobility itself. Merriweather and the eccentric young lord will have quite a job keeping him alive as well as hiding his more unusual secrets. She soon learns there may be very good reasons for the Atrians to want Lord Raventower dead.

October 22, 2016

I hope that I'm starting to feel better.  I hope the same for Wind, though I have doubts for both of us.  We made it through another day, though.

I think I see a few more points for the Raventower 2 outline. That is about the best I can hope for on a day like today. Though I did have a lovely ride this afternoon.  Just wish my head and stomach would both give me a break here!

October 23, 2016

Another day of not really well.  I hope this clears up this time, though.  I want to go into NaNo feeling at least partly well.  I've worked hard to get to this point.

Russ is having a bad weekend with work and such.  I hope that clears up soon, too.  I like it when he's happier about stuff and enjoying things.

Wind might be better.  or he might not be.  This is really difficult.

October 24, 2016

The outline is going to go over 300 points.  Good.  I can work with something that has that many little pieces to write, even if I'm not feeling great.  The more points I get, the better.  I'd like an easy first 100k for NaNo, but that really might be asking for too much.

Eight days to go.  If I can just keep feeling okay through then, I'm going to be a happy person.

October 25, 2016

One week until NaNo.  Yeah.  That's fine, really, because I can stop messing with the outline and just go to work on it.  I'm ready for it.

The outline is over 300 points now.  It looks like it might get all the way to 320 in fact.  This brings it close to about 300 words per point for a 100k story.  Will that work?  it's hard to say.  Some of these points don't have a lot to them, but others will require more detail.  I never really know what I'm going to get until I actually start writing.

We had a thunderstorm tonight.  Didn't really expect if, even though they were predicting one.  I'm used to ice storms this time of year (though we really don't get them that often) but not thunderstorms.

October 26, 2016

Being able to focus on something might be helpful at this point.  I can't say it's going to happen even in November, though.

And how did it get this late in the year anyway?  Honestly, it can't almost be 2017.  I'm not ready.  Hell, I'm not ready for 2010 yet.

I suppose there's nothing we can do about it.  Doesn't seem right, does it?

October 27, 2016

The outline is 330 points long.  It might even go a bit longer than that over the next couple days.  But there it is.  A full, good outline.  About 300 words per point and I'll have something at around 100k.  I don't know that it will sustain that kind of word count. Some of the points cover things that may only end up being mentioned, not fully expanded.

But there it is.  Only 4 days to go, so I don't think I'm going to get much more.

The real question is how well it will work when NaNo actually gets here.

October 28, 2016

Three days left in the month after today.  I have my outline.  I've been adding bits and pieces, but it is really there and I could start today.  So why isn't it NaNo yet?

Raventower 2 is looking good as a story, too.  I hope the writing goes well on it.

That's the problem, of course.  That wait to see if I can pull it off.  Three days.  Ack.

I need a project.  LOL

October 29, 2016

Took a lovely ride through Stone State Park this afternoon.  It will be closed down soon, which is a shame.  I love seeing the trees there, and you don't get to go in the winter.  Though, considering how steep and narrow the roads are, I can see why they don't want people there in winter.

Getting closer to ready for November 1.  I hope it goes well!

October 30, 2016

I added one final chapter to my outline tonight, covering a couple small things I want planted in there as foreshadowing.  Yay!  I'm ready to go!

A shame I still have another day to wait.

Going to be a long 24 hours or so!

October 31, 2016

Less than 3 hours to go.  I have everything set up and I'm ready.  I think.

Raventower & Merriweather 2: War is my first outline.  It's 350 points long and I think I can get to the 100k mark with that one.  I have two more outlines -- not sure how long they are because I haven't looked at them in quite a while -- but they'll see me through the rest of the month.

I just have to get to midnight and start writing.

I should go over 1,000,000 words sometime during November unless everything falls apart.  You never know what might happen.

So mostly I am spending the last couple hours cleaning up files, moving stuff to proper places, getting the tea cups ready and waiting for Russ to get home.
