July 1, 2017

I was in a pretty good mood today considering I should have been in the Rockies.  Got some work done on the Vision stuff.  Did some writing despite the fact that the computer fought me all the way.  Still can't get Topaz Studio to work again.

I really do need to get a life, I suspect.

Just not this month.

July 2, 2017

GS9 is moving along fine.  I'm surprised at how well the stories are going, even with some major changes.  There are a couple aspects of the story that I really need to nail down like how many levels to the station and how the lift works without power as sometimes happens.  I have people on ladders, but I don't think that would be practical for a very large station and I don't know how small would be a viable alternative.

Looking at why the station was built does help, though.  It was never meant to be a habitat for a large number of people.  The station crew would live there, but the colonists would only stay for a few days and then go down to the world.  That isn't happening in this story.

The station also storehouses a huge amount of equipment and supplies that would also go down world.  After everyone settled on the world, the station would be a spot for ships to bring supplies that would be freighted down while items going off world would come back up.

So it would not have been built for size.  Artificial gravity generator.  Power supply.  Bay.

Yes, this gives me a few ideas.  I might not be that far off on what I have after all.

July 3, 2017

We had another interesting storm today.  Nothing dangerous this time, but a lot of lightning and thunder and a bit of rain. Nice clouds, too.

In eleven days I might get to go for a day to the mountains.  Honestly, you wouldn't think it should be this difficult for maybe two days away from home, would you?  It's still a go, though.  I'm thinking good thoughts.

July 4, 2017

Happy 4th!

I pretty much stayed in and fought off the headache from hell.  Got very little writing done.  Did nothing else.  I hope the headache is just from noise and the smoky stuff in the air and it clears up soon.

Ugh.  Hate this.

July 5, 2017

Today is hot.  Just hot and miserable, even in the house.  I worked on the Dusty story so it would be ready to post on Friday and I'm working on the next section of GS9, too.  The headache from yesterday is mostly a dull ache today and I've been able to get things done.  Not a lot, but some things.

Nine days until the mountains?  Maybe so.  I hope it happens this time, but we've not had a lot of luck.  I want to get all excited about it, but I'm holding back just in case.

July 6, 2017

We have no stormy weather in sight for a while.  We do have heat, but so far we're doing okay with it.  I'm just hiding out in the house and not doing much at all except for editing and rewriting.

Over half way through GS9, but there will be one more run through before I start releasing it.

Are we eight days until the trip?  I am having doubts.  The heat will be against us.  Ugh.  And headaches. Why am I having almost constant headaches for the last few days?

I want to go to the mountains for a few hours.  Why is this such a big deal?  Okay, yeah -- money.  It's not like they're next door.  But I think we can keep the cost down.  No buying cute little things.  Take picnic stuff to eat rather than eating out.  Gas prices are still low -- but they'll leap up there the day we leave, of course.

No cost of film thanks to the wonderful age of digital stuff.  SD card for the main camera -- that will run about $40, I think.  I need a second card.  I was looking at a hard drive to drop the pictures on while out there, but I don't think that is going to happen.

I want to get excited about going and I'm worried that if I do, it will just fall apart again.

Ugh.  Better to just go write.

July 7, 2017

I am having a hard time focusing on writing again.  Not a horrible time, but just not what I want to do sometimes.  And at other times -- there's nothing I would rather do.

Hot weather.  That doesn't help.  I just don't do well when it really heats up.

Russ's brother and sister-in-law brought us three lovely lazyboy chairs today since they replaced stuff at their house.  Russ gets those in his house and I get some of the chairs from there.  Buffy already claimed her favorite.

Started doing some massive rearranging here which is fun, actually.  I'm looking forward to having it all done, but Russ has to move some of the boxes for me.  Other than that, though -- looking good.

And we're going to the mountains next weekend!

July 8, 2017

I got ill this morning, but I got better by late afternoon.  That was a great relief since I feared I would be ill for days.

Planning out my trip.  Getting the Flash Fiction done for next Friday.  I already have the class done.  I am taking some little notebooks and my Nook for writing.

Oh yes, I am ready.  A shame I still have about five days to go!

July 9, 2017

Not much going on today except that I have begun work on a huge change in the house.  I decided to get as much done as possible before this weekend, so that I could come home to something different.

The office is about the same, but the outer rooms are much nicer.

Writing is going well.  Trying to keep my enthusiasm about the weekend down to a manageable level.  Right. That's working well.

I'm going to the mountains!

July 10, 2017

I have a new chair in my office.  Buffy loves it and took it over immediately.  It's not a 'new' chair but one from Russ's house and it is very comfortable for sitting in and reading.  I've tested it out a couple times when I could get Buffy out of it.

This is all part of the 'things are changing' stuff in the house.  I'm really happy with stuff so far, but I still have a ways to go. The kitchen is going to be a problem, but I think I can get some stuff moved around there, too.

Not thinking about the mountains.  Nope.  Not at all.

July 11, 2017

The big question today is:  How many cameras can I take with me to the mountains and how many of them will I actually use?

Three cameras for sure.  One will be the camera Russ uses.  The other two are the cameras I trade back and forth on right now -- the Canon SX50 HS and the Canon T4i with the lenses.  Russ will have the older Canon.  The Nook will go and it has a camera, too.  That should be enough, right?  I have an older Sony that could go.  Alas, the good Sony developed a problem and I haven't had the funds to repair it.

Okay, 3 cameras, 4 with the Samsung/Nook tablet

Tripod, battery chargers, GPS for the T4i.

The problem then becomes filled camera cards.  Russ says we have an older laptop we can use to just drop everything on.  See, here is the problem.  If I take a day trip to a wildlife refuge, I can take hundreds of pictures.  Two days to the mountains?  I'm not sure the laptop could hold enough of them.  And no, telling me to take fewer pictures is not going to be the answer.  I might think that's what I'll do -- all the way up to the moment when I see things.

July 12, 2017

Honestly, you'd think we were planning for a month in Europe rather than a couple days in the mountains.  LOL

Really, the insanity is all on my part.  I've let myself just enjoy preparing for it this week.  We're going to do it.

I need to start gathering things.  Not too much.  Really.  I used to take everything I owned with me.  At least we won't have to take a ton of books since I have the Nook. Though maybe some of the reference books?

July 13, 2017

The last time I was to the park, I still had my Sony CD1000 camera and we were driving a van with a crack across the window, so I had to be careful how to take the shots.  I to some excellent ones, though.  That really was a good camera.

I am starting to gather up piles of things -- camera equipment, clothing, a few food items -- though we will got to the store tomorrow night and pick up stuff or sandwiches and such.  Then we will leave about 4 am on Saturday morning, drive through a good part of Nebraska before it gets to hot, and make it to Scottsbluff about noon.  From there southward through the high plains (which I adore) and then westward to Loveland, Estes Park, and the Rocky Mountain National Park.

We are going to do it.  It will just be a fast trip -- we'll be heading back on Sunday, I think -- but it will still be a nice trip to see mountains, pines, elk -- this should be fun.

I was a bit ill today, but I'm feeling better now.  I hope it holds up.

About 28 hours to go now.  I wonder how many of them I can sleep just so I don't go crazy?

July 14, 2017

We will be leaving very early in the morning.  I find this hard to believe.

Getting things done, though.  Preparing the cats for a couple days without us.

July 15, 2017

We left at 4:20 am.

Drove across Nebraska to Scotts Bluff.  Drove up the bluff.  Took lots of pictures.

Back down and on to Colorado.  Pawnee National Grasslands.  Lots of pictures.

Rocky Mountain National Park.  More pictures.

Down to Longmont for the night.

Busy day!

July 16, 2017

Back to the park for a few hours and then we headed home!  Long drive back across Colorado and on to Nebraska.  We made it home at just after midnight on the 17th.

That was great!  The trip  was wonderful and just what I needed, though so much time in the car was difficult!  And except for some AC problems at the worst times, it went without too much of a problem at all!

July 17, 2017

I spent all day sorting through pictures and doing some writing.  I will be sorting through pictures forever, I suspect.  And it's great fun, too.

The weather is pretty miserable here.  I much preferred the mountains!  Looks like we are going to have some really bad weather for the next few months.  I'm hiding out in the house.

July 18, 2017

But I have lovely pictures from the trip and I'm quite happy to hide in my office and just relive the trip a few times.  It was a quick trip, but wow did we see a lot of things!

Russ went back to work today.  I don't think he's recovered yet.  I certainly haven't.  But it was fun!

July 19, 2017

I rearranged my desk today and made room for my bust of Alexander, which I have badly missed.  He's been sitting behind me, mostly buried behind a few stuffed animals.  I really like having him back in place!

Oh yes, still in a great mood, despite the fact that it is hot, humid, and giving me headaches.  Getting work done on stories, getting stuff done around the house, and mostly having fun still.

Love my pictures, too.

Yay stuff!

July 20, 2017

I got the flash fiction piece done and posted for tomorrow.  The same for the next 2YN class on FB.  Made it through Part 8 of Tales of Grey Station 9, too.  That one was a bit difficult because I had to move things around and I think I still need to work up more of the feeling that something is going to happen and go wrong.

Things always go wrong on GS9.  Makes it fun to write.

July 21, 2017

The weather was supposed to be really bad today, but we got lucky with a little storm that passed through and cooled things down.  Just the same, the current 88f with a heat index of 100f is not great.  Just better than the 100f plus heat index we were supposed to have.

I'm hiding in the house until autumn -- which isn't all that far away.  Kind of scary when you think about it.

I've started part 9 of GS9.  Only one more section after this.  Major rewrite and edit on what I've done so far, but it will need one more rewrite.  I don't think that will take long, so I'll likely release it in early August.

Time to get back to work!

July 22, 2017

The days are going quickly for some reason.   Maybe because I have so much to do?  Maybe because I've felt so much better, with the exception of an occasional upset stomach and a bit of a headache?

The work on GS9 is going so well that I have to start worrying about what to work on next.  I have some ideas.  I think I can get through the rest of this year (don't think about NaNo) without any real trouble.

Those outlines might slow me up a bit, though.  LOL.

July 23, 2017

The weather here is summer-bad with high temps and high humidity.  It keeps feeling as though we should have some rain, but it never comes.  I wouldn't mind a nice storm or two.

I believe I have worked out all the plot-timetable problems with GS9 and now I'll be rewriting/editing.  Once this round is done, there are a couple cosmetic changes I need to make, and then a final edit with Word, which picks up a few different things that Grammarly doesn't.  Then?  Wattpad and probably an ebook not long afterwards.

Things are looking good.

July 24, 2017

Wow, this week has gone fast!  It was just a week ago today that we got home from our super fast vacation!  I think we've started to recover from it -- so many hours in a car is kind of hard when you're not used to it any more.

I am having such a fun time going through the pictures that I am having trouble focusing on writing sometimes.  Getting things done though!

July 25, 2017

I seem to be full of energy still.  This is good.  Leaping around and getting things done!  yay!

And my Topaz Studio program works now so more graphic stuff, too!  Lovely that they got it to work again.

And I've already finished part 9 of GS9 and I'm heading into the last section.

So the vacation did everything I expected.  I have a lot more energy, I have a bunch of fun pictures to work with, and I loved being in the mountains (and the high plains) again!

July 26, 2017

Ummm, right.  Almost the end of the month again.  Amazing how that works. And we're well over the halfway mark for the year, too.  Ugh.

Must do outlines.  I'm almost done with GS9.  I have been nudging another story, but I think I had better write at least one outline next, right?  NaNo is coming!

I can do this!  And other things.  And more things.

I can do all the things!

Just, you know, have to get moving on them!

July 27, 2017

I'm down to the last bit of GS9 and there is something here at the end that I just don't like.  It works, but I can make it work better.  That means a bit of reworking, which shouldn't be too hard, but I need to nudge, break a link, change the connection....

I can do this.  And the story will be better for it.

I am very close to finishing this rewrite/edit.  It will need another one, but the book is about 160k total, so I'm doing very well to be this close to done.  The last read/edit is an easier one unless I find other places that need reworked.

Just need to work this part out.

July 28, 2017

Oh so close to the end of the month!  Amazing how that can happen.  And it was such a good month, too!  We survived the trip to the mountains!  I am still playing with pictures!

And the writing is going well.  I just need to work on some outlines soon, though.  Must outline!  Must have ideas to outline!

Fun stuff, though.  I think things are going well.  Just working on that change in GS9, but I think I have the basics of it worked out so it shouldn't be too hard.

July 29, 2017

We went down to DeSoto Wildlife Refuge today. That was fun.  It paid off, too, with a nice lifetime park pass.

And a new story idea that has really taken root in my head. Finally!  Something that I can work on for NaNo!  Yay!

I think I'm really doing to like this one!

July 30, 2017

I finished this round of work on GS9!  YAY!  It is really almost done.  Some changes in a few things, a little bit of work here and there -- and then it will start on Wattpad and go to ebook.

The new story -- oh yes, the new one is doing well, too.  I have a few things sketched out already.  It involves Egypt and I'm hoping I can get all kinds of things set up for it.  Yay!  Fun!

Now if I can just get an actual story in it somewhere....

July 31, 2017

End of the month!  A very good month, too.  Had all kinds of fun, got to see mountains and things, and I finished this draft of GS9!  Yay!  It will require one more small edit, which I will start in a few days.  But overall, not too bad of a month!

Except for the heat.  LOL
