May 1, 2017

We did not get snow last night.  It did get cold and very windy, but I think most of my lilacs may have survived.  It has to warm up now for them to bloom, and it looks like we might get lucky there.

Yay!  Spring!

I am trying to figure out Wattpad so that I can start Circe's Gifts there.  This should be fun once I get it going.  I just have trouble getting things moving when I'm unsure of what I really need.  I'm looking over other stories there.  I think I might be just about there.

May 2, 2017

Circe's Gifts, Chapter 1, is up on Wattpad.  I intend to do a second chapter on Wednesday.  Let's see if we can get anywhere with this!

The weather has changed better again.  Not great yet, but we're going to be in the 70's soon.  I am so glad to be looking towards reasonable weather again.  I think it's going to stick this time, too.

Unfortunately, I am just off a bit today.  Getting things done, but not the best of days.  I hope this clears up quickly.

May 3, 2017

Russ found a billfold a couple days ago.  He arranged to mail it back to the guy, but then couldn't get out of work at noon, so he decided we should drive it up -- about 70 miles.  The weather was fun!  We went through a good downpour and then we had beautiful clouds all the all rest of the way up and back.  I took 300 pictures.  Really.

I love spring weather.

May 4, 2017

I love the May The Forth be with you stuff.  Just fun.  There is nothing wrong with having fun in life.

Today I finished the last of the Surviving Elsewhere flash fictions.  That's about 119k worth of story.  I actually liked the ending, too.  Fun stuff.

I still have the regular flash fiction stories to write now.  I wonder if I should come up with a new flash fiction serial.  Maybe something in science fiction.

Just not right away.

Circe's Gifts is going fine.  I still need to get Raventower 2 finished up for publication.  Dragging my heals on that one.  Must do better.

Off to get some work done....

May 5, 2017

Closer to having Raventower 2 done and published.  This is good.  I need to keep moving on this stuff.  I let myself get bogged down.  I know it and I do it anyway -- but we are getting closer!  I will finish it!

I need to start thinking about my NaNo outlines.  I can play around with those for a while and get things moving so I'm not trying to do it all at the last moment.

Yeah.  Need to do that.

May 6, 2017

I now have two chapters of Circe's Gifts up on Wattpad.  I hope the novels wins a little attention.  I am already thinking that two chapters a week might not be enough, though.  Once I get the novel done, I might start doing several a week.  We'll see.

I need to get focused.  I need to get things done.  I need a brain.

I suppose I can just go write.

May 7, 2017

I did it! The second book is published.  Finally!

I'm sure I should have gone through it again.  Or maybe a couple more times.  Maybe I should have rewritten it.

It's done.  It's up. https://www.smashwords.com/books/byseries/28812

Time to move on, right?

The lilacs never last long enough.  This has been a better year than the last one, though.  Last year we had a late snow storm that destroyed part of the bushes and killed off most of the buds.  This year there were lilacs everywhere.

But they're already fading away. Sigh.

I guess summer is coming.

Russ took me out to Kroger Lake again this evening.  What a nice ride!  There were ducks and geese -- including goslings -- in the water close to the road, so I got some nice shots.  It's wonderful that the place is so close.

I imagine it will be packed in the summer.

Kind of hard to believe I have a new novel out.  Yay!  I hope it does well.  I hope sales for the first one pick up.  I hope -- well, that things get moving again.

May 10, 2017

We had a storm last night and now there are little lilac flowers all over the sidewalk.  They're going away.  Sigh.

We also saw a small black kitten in the yard.  I did not leap out of the car and try to grab it.  Nor am I thinking about kitten traps.  Really.  Not at all.

may 11, 2017

I have been playing with the new Topaz Studio program. This is fun.

I needed fun today.   I was very ill again.  I wish that would stop happening.

The edits of Circe's Gifts is going very well.  So well that I might start posting several chapters a week.  I am even thinking about the next novel to put up.  I wonder why I think this is so much fun?

May 12, 2017

We went for another lovely ride tonight.  Very nice weather, not even a breeze, so everything was clear and except for driving back with the sun in our faces -- not so good -- it was great fun. Especially when we had to take a detour and ended up going on several dirt roads we hadn't been on before.

I've started watching the Oceanography class from Great Courses.  Interesting stuff.  I learned a couple things that might even help with stories.  Fun stuff!

May 13, 2016

Pretty ride out into the country.  Nice weather, clear day.  Got a lot of writing stuff done, too.

Falling a bit behind on my hieroglyphs, but I'll get back to them.  Really, though, need to think about other stories and stuff.

Nice spring days.  I can live with this.

May 14, 2017

I am shocked and amazed at how well Circe's Gifts is going.  I will be posting several chapters a week, in fact.  Then the ebook will be released.

Need to work on some new ideas that are bouncing around in my head.  I'm not sure why I keep putting this off.  Maybe because it starts committing me to the stories? That makes sense.

May 15, 2017

I miss the mountains and the oceans and the deserts.  I really do some days.  Of the three, I love the mountains the most I guess, though surprisingly, the desert comes in close behind it.  I probably would love the ocean more if I had seen it in the last 30 years or so.

I write a lot of stories based in deserts.  I only realized that recently.  Some in forests, but mostly the people are passing through there.  Except for Whispers of Winterwood, which was set in the mountains.

Small towns, alien cities, spaceships ... yeah, a lot of different settings.

It's good to have so many places to play in with words.

May 16, 2017

We went up to South Dakota today, which was nice.  Good visit.  Lovely clouds on the way up, lightning storm on the way home, and a very cooperative little hummingbird during the visit.

Didn't get a lot of work done, but it was fun!

May 17, 2017

Wow did it rain today!  I am really surprised that we didn't have it up over the curbs, but I think it came in bands that were spread out just enough that the water was able to subside a bit between each one.

It cooled down quite a bit, too.  Going to get even cooler for a few days and then start back up into the 70's again.  I have to say that this is not the May I imagined!  Ugh!

I am closer to being done with Circe's Gifts than I had expected to be so soon.  This is good!  I haven't had a book that didn't fight me all the way for a long time!

Strange flowers

May 18, 2017

If I really pushed, I could probably have Circe's Gifts done tonight.  I am not going to push, though, and partly because I don't have anything ready for the next story.  Russ suggested another fantasy so that I don't loose the readers I already have.  I think that's a good idea.

But which one?  Touched by the Wild?  No, the MC is too much like the MC of Circe's Gifts.  A Plague of Rats might be better.  Or one of the others.  So many things to work on.

I'll have to make up my mind soon.

May 19, 2017

Getting closer to done.  I am pleased that this one has gone so well and so fast.  I'm still not sure what I am going to do next, though.

I am still working on the hieroglyphs, too.  Not as hard as I had been before, but I am working through them.  It's funny how easy it is to read and write some of the words.

Playing with graphics again, too.  I need to do that more often.

May 20, 2017

I wish I could start feeling better and just stay that way.  It's annoying after a while, seeing things go up and down, up and down.  I need steady for a few weeks.  I don't think that's too much to ask.

Oh, and while I'm at it, how about the same for the temperature around here?  I swear we're heading into winter again.  I'd like to have a nice spring before we go to summer.

And maybe a tad bit less rain?

May 21, 2017

Okay, we had a pretty nice day as far as the weather went.  We had a nice ride, too, just around town.  Sometimes it's fun to drive through Sioux City and see the different areas.

Russ is heading to the East Coast on Wednesday, so things are just crazy here right now, especially since he still has one more class to teach tomorrow.  He'll be gone for almost a week.  Ugh.  It will be too much like the old days, I fear.

May 22, 2017

I have finished Circe's Gifts.  I've even published it.  I'll still be putting up chapters on Wattpad.  I'm happy to have it done!

And I have the next book chosen:  Tales from Grey Station 9.  It's a fun science fiction adventure about a space station in a lot of trouble and the people who are stranded there.  Yeah, this one should be good to do.

Russ is done with his classes for now, so there's some pressure off for him. The trip east is not best timed, but I hope he'll enjoy himself anyway.

May 23, 2017

We had some more rain.  Interesting storms, really -- spotty things and one hit -- very hard -- just as I was heading out for the car.  That was kind of funny.

Today was prepare for Russ to leave day.  I think we got most everything done!  He won't really be gone that long, but it still takes quite a bit to get everything set!

May 24, 2017

Russ left very, very early this morning and now he's in Cambridge, Mass.  How odd is that?

Things are calm here.  Got the dog bathed and trimmed -- that was a big bit of work for the day.  Going to try and get some other things done around the house this week, but we'll see how ambitious I become.

Right now I'm not feeling very active at all.  That might be the time of day.  I should probably go get some sleep.  Or at least go to bed and read for a while!

May 25, 2017

Blah.  Just blah.  Can't get focused, can't get anything done, not as warm as it should have been, hate all the food, writing sucks.

There, that's all out of my system.

Actually, I'm getting things done.  The opening to Grey Station 9 is starting to look better.  That's about as good as it gets today.

May 26, 2017

Three more days and Russ will be home.  I wish I could say I got all kinds of things done, but I haven't.  At all.  Ugh.  At least GS9 is finally moving a bit.  I am enjoying getting to know the characters again.

May 27, 2017

At least I know why Edmond wanted snuggles so badly now.  He has a cold.  Sneezing and shivering, poor guy.  I'll take him to bed with me tonight and hope he feels better soon.

Work is going okay on GS9.

Russ will be home in two days.

My life is really very boring here alone.  This is too much like the old days.  I don't think I like it much.

May 28, 2017

Cat is still not feeling well.  I'm getting snarly about everything.  just a mood, I fear.  Russ will be home tomorrow, so that's good.

And I am working on GS9.  I love the story, really.  I need to not let my bad mood affect my work on it.

Back to writing or something.

May 29, 2017

Russ will be home sometime today.  Yay!

It's not been bad.  I've just not been in the best mood.  The best I could do, in fact, was stay in bed and sleep as much as possible.  LOL

The guys like me to get up and feed them though.  And there's that writing and photography stuff.

Glad Russ will be home soon.

May 30, 2017

Russ made it home at about 1am.  He's here, though!  Yay!

And now I'm faced with the end of the month.  How did that happen?

It's been a good writing month at least.  No complaints there.  GS9 is going well, though a little slower than I like.  No matter.  I really don't have to rush, right?

Aside from that, not much going on.  Back to work.  Must write more!

May 31, 2017

Last day of the month already.  Yeah, this keeps going too fast.  The good news is that I published two books this month -- Raventower & Merriweather 2: War and Circe's Gifts.  I've managed a lot of rewriting and hard work on making novels good.

I just found some notes and I have no idea what story they even go to let alone what they mean.  View from office?

Oh, hold it.  I know what that one is too!  Good!

And I had already taken care of that problem.  I should probably throw these notes out now, right?

So, we're heading on to June.  I hope things go well.  Or at least go calmly for a while.  I would like that to happen.
